ADOPT A DOLPHIN
*includes a Dilo book*
A wonderful gift for a child

One of the aims of Adopt & Watch is to raise awareness that it is possible to see dolphins around the British Isles. When people experience the joy of seeing a dolphin ranging free in the open sea, they realise how important it is that dolphins should continue to exist and flourish in British waters. That will only happen if we look after the sea. The sea is not a resource to be used up and then discarded. It is not a dustbin. The oceans need to be nurtured. The dolphin population is a good indicator of the health of our waters.

The Moray Firth in Scotland is one of the places where a precious population of dolphins still exist. In the summer of 1996 Peter MacDonald started year-round observations and is building up a picture of the habits and behaviour of one special dolphin - Star Dance - who ranges from Burghead to Banff but spends much of her time off Findochty and Cullen Bay.
Star Dance is one of the bottlenose dolphins for adoption under the Adopt & Watch scheme. The others are Echo (England), Fungie (Ireland) and Sun Spirit (Wales).

The Adopt & Watch pack is an excellent way of introducing children to dolphins and making them aware of the need to preserve our seas. It makes an excellent gift. Each pack contains:-

  • A wall poster detailing the 12 species of Dolphins that have been recorded around the British Isles. Each one is illustrated and described.
  • The Dolphin Adoption and Watching Handbook written by Dr Horace Dobbs. It contains much information on dolphins and the sea, and shows you where you may see your adopted dolphin.
  • A colour photograph of your adopted dolphin
