Fearsome Fivesome
“Now the Terrible Twins have become a Fearsome Foursome,” said Postie with a smile when Debra, Robin. Beth and Ann gathered on the beach for a council of war the next day.
“We’re the Fearsome Fivesome if we count you as well.” said Robin looking at Postie.
“And we’re ready for action,” said Debra.
A short time later they were all at the aquarium. They didn’t go to the pool. Instead they went to the office area. One of the doors had a sign: CURATOR. Postie knocked.
“Come in.”
Postie opened the door. Beth and Ann, recognised the person standing in the room instantly, It was the friendly man on the beach. He recognised them too. He looked very surprised, but he quickly recovered his composure.
“Well this is a surprise. How nice to see you again,” he said looking at Beth and Ann, smiling falsely.
“We’ve come to set Dilo free,” said Debra, unable to control her anger.
The man ignored her. He continued to look at Beth and Ann.
“Unfortunately you’ve caught me at a bad time. I'm very busy right now, goodbye.” he said starting to close the door.
“Busy making money out of our beautiful friendly dolphin,” said Debra hotly.
Postie took hold of the door handle.
“I think you had better hear what we have to say,” said Postie stopping the curator from closing the door.
The man backed away and the Fearsome Fivesome moved in and closed around him. Ann and Beth told him he had lied to the newspaper. They all pleaded for Dilo to be returned to the sea. The man refused their request outright.
Finally Postie said firmly, “Diving equipment and nets that could have been used for catching a dolphin have been found on a boat called Sea Wolf And Sea Wolf was seen in Lighthouse Bay just before Dilo disappeared.
“What you say may be true,” said the man sharply, “but it doesn’t prove anything.” He paused “The dolphin was injured and stranded on the beach. Until you can prove otherwise, Star stays. Now you can all go,” he said curtly, pushing the Fearesome Fivesome out of the door and slamming it behind them.
“What on earth are we going to do?” said Debra as they walked down the corridor. “We haven’t got much time left.”
“We could try and get Dilo out tonight. Perhaps Tina would help us, she knows where all the equipment is,” suggested Robin excitedly.
“They will be on guard now they know our intention,” said Postie. “ There is bound to be an alarm system. If the police were called in they would have to stop us from trespassing - that’s their job.”
“I know it us, said Debra angrily, “but that awful man stole Dilo from the sea.”
“I’m afraid the police wouldn’t see it that way,” said Postie.
“We can’t give up now. We’ve got to think of something,” said Debra determinedly.
The Fearsome Fivesome all had tea and cakes together. They remained glum. Nobody could think how to solve the problem.
